Qurbani is a significant act of worship performed during Eid al-Adha to help feed the hungry and save their lives. It’s an animal sacrifice that shows devotion to Allah (SWT) and remembers the story of the Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who was prepared to sacrifice his only son to show his commitment to his faith. The meat from this sacrifice is given to those in desperate need around the world to help them survive, restore their dignity, offer hope for a better future during hard times and allow them to finally participate in the celebrations of Eid.
When it comes to Qurbani in the UK, there are various donation options to suit a Muslim’s budget and help vulnerable communities in different parts of the world. These options are based on shares of an animal because every able believer must give one share to correctly observe the sacrifice for themselves. This act is an individual obligation and so has to be done based on per person. But what is a share of Qurbani? At Orphans in Need, we want to make Qurbani easy for you to do and have explained Qurbani shares so that you can make sure your donations are done correctly.
A Qurbani share is one person’s sacrifice and can be either a whole small animal or one share in a larger animal. This is typically either a buffalo, cow, camel, sheep or goat, and each represents a different number of shares for an individual. A smaller animal, like a sheep or a goat, is one share, so is one person’s Qurbani, while a larger animal, such as a camel, cow or buffalo, is up to 7 shares. This means that for a larger animal, 7 people can each purchase one share of Qurbani, which makes it much more affordable as the cost for the whole animal is split between 7 eligible believers.
Having the option to only purchase one share in a larger animal means that more people can donate Qurbani because it’s more affordable and, therefore, more people in need can be helped. We take your Qurbani donations and distribute them to the most vulnerable communities, including orphans, widows and struggling families facing extreme poverty and hunger every single day, and provide them with nutritious meat to share the joy and blessings of Eid al-Adha.
So, how does Qurbani shares work? This is all dependent on the way in which you want to give your share. You can either donate one whole smaller animal, which equals one share, or purchase one share out of 7 in a larger animal. As well as this, you can even donate more than one share if you wish to do so, either by purchasing a few shares or the whole large animal. It’s all entirely up to you!
With Orphans in Need, a Qurbani share works in choosing the animal you want to donate to, either a whole smaller animal (one share) or one share of a larger animal (seven shares). Once you’ve selected the share you want to contribute, we’ll sacrifice the animal in the chosen location during the days of Eid al-Adha, and the meat will be distributed directly to desperate families to give them sustenance and spread joy during the celebrations.
Another thing you need to know about is the Qurbani share rules. These are essential to ensure that your sacrifice is carried out correctly and in line with Islamic rules. The rules of Qurbani shares are:
We strictly follow these rules to make sure that your donation counts and makes a meaningful difference. This means that your sacrifice is done correctly and in line with Islamic rules, and goes to those most in need.
When it comes to the common question of, “How much is one Qurbani share?”, there isn’t a set cost. The price of a Qurbani share can vary significantly depending on the type of share you choose whether that’s one whole small animal or a share in a large animal, and the country you want the sacrifice to take place in.
Choosing a whole small animal as your share is more expensive than donating toward one share in a larger animal because it represents one person’s Qurbani, while a larger animal represents seven people’s Qurbani. As well as this, choosing a remote area with limited resources is more expensive than an area that has more resources, due to the lack of livestock. This doesn’t mean one area doesn’t have vulnerable communities compared to others; every area we work in needs help, but the remote locations are just where that need is greatest.
Choosing the right share of Qurbani for you is essential to fulfil this act of worship and help the poor and hungry. Whether you want to donate a share in a larger animal to make Qurbani more affordable for you or donate a whole small animal, we make it easy for you to show your devotion to Allah (SWT) during Eid al-Adha. Our team handle the whole sacrifice process for you and distributes it to those most in need, such as orphans with no support, widows trying to feed their families and hungry families with no access to basic necessities.
Donate Qurbani to spread hope and joy during Eid al-Adha through healthy meals that end the hunger of so many vulnerable communities. Make a meaningful difference in countless lives and bring comfort, dignity and happiness to families around the world.
