Gift Aid

Enhance Your Donation by 25% at No Extra Cost!

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a UK government scheme that allows charities to reclaim the basic rate tax you've already paid on your donation. This means that for every £1 you donate, we can claim an extra 25p from the government, increasing the value of your donation by 25% - at no extra cost to you!

By completing the declaration form below, we can reclaim Gift Aid on your donations from the past four years and any future donations unless you inform us otherwise.

Frequently Asked Questions

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a UK taxpayer.
  • Have paid at least as much in Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax in the tax year as the amount you want to be claimed in Gift Aid.

Your donation qualifies if it’s a gift. Donations that don’t qualify include those:

  • From limited companies
  • Made through Payroll Giving
  • To enter a competition, such as a raffle or sweepstake
  • Made on behalf of someone else or a group
  • Made using charity cards or vouchers (e.g. CAF vouchers)

If you pay higher rate tax (40%), Orphans in Need can claim 20% back from HMRC. You can then reclaim the difference between the higher rate and basic rate tax on your donation from HMRC.

For example:

  • You donate £100
  • We reclaim £25, making your total donation £125
  • You can claim the remaining 20% of £125 (£25) from HMRC
