Sponsor an Orphan
Helping orphan children live a happier and healthier life from just £30.
Hadith
With the arrival of Ramadan, we are given the opportunity for spiritual renewal and practical acts of empathy and compassion. This year, we approach the month with deep pain for the catastrophic suffering in Gaza, Palestine, as well as the many other areas of acute need around the world. We are committed to those in need for the long-term, providing the timely, sustainable, and effective interventions so desperately needed.
We work in Ethiopia, The Gambia, Kenya, Mali, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Bangladesh, India, Jammu & Kashmir, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, and Sri Lanka.
As we gather for lively iftar gatherings and soothing night prayers, our thoughts also turn to the global Ummah and those who do not enjoy the same security and peace as we do. For the widows and orphans we support, Ramadan is a bittersweet month where their all-year round poverty is felt more sharply. The challenges of poverty, debt, food insecurity and lack of safe housing comes into focus during Ramadan.
Such difficult times bring with them opportunity for us, however. We are invited to stand up and be the one to restore hope, guard their rights and protect the vulnerable from exploitation. Be the one to relieve a struggling widow from the burden of hunger, homelessness and desperation this Ramadan. Be the one to make a difference to those who need it most.
The Prophet (ﷺ) was the most generous of all the people, and he used to become more generous in Ramadan
Sahih Al Bukhari
When Mai Fattan found herself widowed three years ago, life took a dramatic and scary twist.
Women like her in the Shikarpur District of Sindh have few working opportunities, even those with a formal education. So, what chance did Mai have? Grief-stricken and under immense financial pressure, Mai began work cutting grass on local farms. The meagre 2-300 rupees a day this brought could scarcely cover the family's needs, and the children learnt to go without basic necessities.
Mai is one of thousands of families who received a family food parcel to cover all the family's needs for one month. The relief from hunger means Mai can save her daily wage for other essential costs in the home, safe in the knowledge food is taken care of. While our team help to find secure and permanent shelter for her and her family, Mai tells us:
The donor is like an angel for me. I wish them very good luck, and I hope Orphans in Need will grow bigger with the prayers of all the poor and needy people.

Should an able-bodied Muslim not be able to complete a day of fasting out of necessity, due to ongoing poor health, a small tax of £4 can be made for each day that a fast has been missed. This tax, known as Fidya, contributes to providing two meals to a person in need. If someone misses all the fasts of Ramadan, it would amount to £120.
The tax for deliberately missing or breaking a fast without a valid reason is known as Kaffarah and demands either fasting continuously for 60 further days or donating enough to feed 60 impoverished persons. Each time a fast is intentionally missed, a donation of £240 is expected to help those in need.
As well as continuing to deliver our long-term projects such as our renowned Orphan Sponsorship and Global Orphan Care Programmes, our teams are currently on the field working tirelessly to deliver life-saving Food Parcels this Ramadan. At Orphans in Need, we promise to put our children first and make sure their hopes and needs are met.
We ensure we follow strict guidelines and adhere to Child Protection and Safeguarding Policies at all times. We specialise in providing high-quality orphan care and education to protect them and create the next generation of doctors, nurses, engineers, teachers and future leaders that will prosper in impoverished communities.
