Serve the world’s poorest as One Ummah united

The beautiful month of Ramadan has arrived and with it comes the promise of immense rewards and blessings for the believers. As we fast during the Spring days, and increase in our night-time worship, our thoughts will inevitably include those who do not enjoy the same security and peace as we do. For the widows and orphans we support, Ramadan is a time they rely on the mercy of their Ummah more than ever. Across the world, widows and orphans remain the most vulnerable groups in society, afflicted with poverty, debt and lack of secure housing.

This Ramadan, show our Ummah the power of One intention for the sake of the One who created us all. Be there to relieve a struggling widow from the burden of hunger, homelessness and debt this Ramadan. Give for the sake of the One.

“The Prophet (ﷺ) was the most generous of all the people, and he used to become more generous in Ramadan”  (Sahih Al Bukhari) 

Last year, you came together as One last year to provide almost 12 million meals to fasting communities, including 20,000 food parcels to give relief to 95,000 people who would otherwise be burdened by hunger. 

In Numbers: One sobering reality 

One remarkable story of Aida in Palestine 

At the tender age of 12, Aida thought there was nothing left to live for when her home burned down, killing her beloved father and traumatising her entire family. With severe burns and a family left broken, Aida struggled to make sense of what happened:

"That was the cruellest day of my life. I saw hell with my own eyes. I will live with the consequences for the rest of my life."

Aida's mother, six sisters and one brother survived though all suffered severe injuries, needing extensive and ongoing surgery. With their house unliveable, Aida's mother was told of the work of Orphans in Need to support families like hers. Aida and her siblings Rafif and Ghazal were sponsored by OiN and were given the chance to pay for medical treatment, extensive ongiong burns care supplies, appropriate clothing and uniforms for school and regular food supplies for the family.

Aida shows a strength and resilience well beyond her years. Already living in the brutal conditions of Gaza, Aida studies hard and dreams of becoming a teacher. She faces regular hospital treatment for her burns and will not let anything stand in the way of her ambitions.

Aida's mother told us: "I would like to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation for all donors, supporters and workers for their efforts and presence to serve the orphaned children, especially because they suffer from many psychological issues now. We thank Allah for making you a cause to help us. I don't know what I would do if you did not exist to provide your support. We love our Ummah and still need you beside us; I ask Allah to bless you all, bless your sustenance and aid you to be always supporters of orphans."
