This Ramadan, join us as One ummah to bring One month of special blessings to the world’s most vulnerable widows and orphans. Stand as One for the pleasure of One God.
"The one who looks after a widow or a poor person is like a Mujahid (warrior) who fights for Allah's Cause, or like him who performs prayers all the night and fasts all day." (Hadith)
The beautiful month of Ramadan has arrived and with it comes the promise of immense rewards and blessings for the believers. As we fast during the Spring days, and increase in our night-time worship, our thoughts will inevitably include those who do not enjoy the same security and peace as we do. For the widows and orphans we support, Ramadan is a time they rely on the mercy of their Ummah more than ever. Across the world, widows and orphans remain the most vulnerable groups in society, afflicted with poverty, debt and lack of secure housing.
This Ramadan, show our Ummah the power of One intention for the sake of the One who created us all. Be there to relieve a struggling widow from the burden of hunger, homelessness and debt this Ramadan. Give for the sake of the One.
“The Prophet (ﷺ) was the most generous of all the people, and he used to become more generous in Ramadan” (Sahih Al Bukhari)
Last year, you came together as One last year to provide almost 12 million meals to fasting communities, including 20,000 food parcels to give relief to 95,000 people who would otherwise be burdened by hunger.
There are over 153 million orphan children worldwide.
By the end of the day, another 10,000 children will become orphans.
258 million women worldwide are widows, majority of whom live in extreme poverty.
At the tender age of 12, Aida thought there was nothing left to live for when her home burned down, killing her beloved father and traumatising her entire family. With severe burns and a family left broken, Aida struggled to make sense of what happened:
"That was the cruellest day of my life. I saw hell with my own eyes. I will live with the consequences for the rest of my life."
Aida's mother, six sisters and one brother survived though all suffered severe injuries, needing extensive and ongoing surgery. With their house unliveable, Aida's mother was told of the work of Orphans in Need to support families like hers. Aida and her siblings Rafif and Ghazal were sponsored by OiN and were given the chance to pay for medical treatment, extensive ongiong burns care supplies, appropriate clothing and uniforms for school and regular food supplies for the family.
Aida shows a strength and resilience well beyond her years. Already living in the brutal conditions of Gaza, Aida studies hard and dreams of becoming a teacher. She faces regular hospital treatment for her burns and will not let anything stand in the way of her ambitions.
Aida's mother told us: "I would like to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation for all donors, supporters and workers for their efforts and presence to serve the orphaned children, especially because they suffer from many psychological issues now. We thank Allah for making you a cause to help us. I don't know what I would do if you did not exist to provide your support. We love our Ummah and still need you beside us; I ask Allah to bless you all, bless your sustenance and aid you to be always supporters of orphans."
You can take a vulnerable child off the streets for good. Their new start in life will include a safe home, protective clothing and nourishing food.
One act will earn multiple rewards as you can support an orphan for an entire year. Provide shelter, food, medical care and pastoral support.
One intervention of yours will transform the life of a mother and her vulnerable children. This sponsorship programme will cover the costs of school fees, food, medication, and essential sanitation products.
Be the One who provides relief to a group of orphans who would otherwise be facing poverty and the risk of exploitation. Your sponsorship will cover secure housing, food and medical care.
One deed will gather the dua of 10 children whose life you have uplifted. Bring security, dignity, and protection to even more orphan lives.
One home for a widow and her children will secure a family’s entire future. A place of safety and refuge will include a kitchen, bathroom, toilet and bedrooms for each family member. To feel right at home, we provide bedding and soft furnishings for the family’s comfort.
Sadaqah and Sadaqah Jariyah are voluntary selfless acts carried out by anyone for the benefit of everyone. Give Sadaqah without delay to Orphans in Need this Ramadan.
Should an able-bodied Muslim not be able to complete a day of fasting out of necessity, whether due to ill health or starting the menstruation cycle, they can delay their fast and make the time up later in the year. If they are unable to make up the fast, a small tax of £4 can be made for each day that a fast has been missed. This tax, known as Fidya, contributes to providing two meals to a person in need. If someone misses all the fasts of Ramadan, it would amount to £120.
The tax for deliberately missing or breaking a fast without a valid reason is known as Kaffarah and demands either fasting continuously for 60 further days or donating enough to feed 60 impoverished persons. Each time a fast is intentionally missed, a donation of £240 is expected to help those in need.
As well as continuing to deliver our long-term projects such as our renowned Orphan Sponsorship and Global Orphan Care Programmes, our teams are currently on the field working tirelessly to deliver life-saving Food Parcels this Ramadan. We ensure we follow strict guidelines and adhere to Child Protection and Safeguarding Policies at all times. We specialise in providing high-quality orphan care and education to protect them and create the next generation of doctors, nurses, engineers, teachers and future leaders that will prosper in impoverished communities.
