13 yrs old
This is Shabnum.
She lost her father at the age of one, which left she, her three siblings and her mother to fend for themselves, living in a mud house.
With no breadwinner to support the family, her mother began working on a farm to make ends meet. However this only earned them Rs 900 (GBP 9) per month, which was not enough to make sure her children were clothed and fed.
Now, thanks to sponsorship from Orphans in Need, all of this has changed…
After becoming sponsored by Orphans in Need, Shabnum was moved to live in an orphanage. This has been a fantastic move for her, as she is now provided with adequate food, clothing and has access to healthcare.
Shabnum is a brilliant student, and is a high achiever. She dreams of becoming a scientist when she is older and has really enjoyed carrying out demonstrations to show scientific laws and principles. She even likes to read books on science, and outside of class she likes playing badminton.
Shabnum is very thankful to her sponsor as she says: “I really appreciate and love the concern of Orphans in Need and of my sponsor. I have no words to express my gratitude . Orphans in Need has changed my life.”
